Mr. Jeffery Devine, CEOWith around 50 dedicated employees who bring their vast expertise and mastery in the development of scientific applications and support solutions, DeVine Consulting is a technology and services company that is going on achieving things far beyond what most perceive as possible for a company of its size—in a market that has long been dominated by big players.
With a focus on federal and defense projects, DeVine offers a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art products and groundbreaking solutions that include scientific application development, global weather and atmospheric data modeling, high-performance computing, multi-source data assimilation and management for meteorology, oceanology, climatology, and aerosol modeling. Their expanding portfolio of capabilities also includes a growing practice in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
While their menu of services focuses primarily on atmospheric sciences and scientific data modeling, it also includes advanced cyber security services such as: penetration testing, IT security assessments, security reviews and audits, and an array of system and network administration services. “DeVine is a growing and dynamic firm that is deeply embedded within the gears of the atmospheric science and high-performance computing community. We are helping to drive innovation efforts in advanced visualizations and data management for our atmospheric modeling clients,” says Paul Beach, Senior Director, DeVine.
Though a small, disadvantaged business, DeVine’s client roster includes: NASA Ames, multiple divisions of the Naval Research Laboratories (NRL), as well as the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVO), and the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC).
For the last decade, DeVine has delivered new capabilities to support its clients with their forecasting, visualization, and atmospheric modeling efforts. They have also been providing 24x7 high performance computing systems support to fleet operational elements to aid critical missions and exercises. DeVine leads multiple support efforts to modernize and transition in situ HPC, scientific application environments (such as global and mesoscale regional modeling applications) to commercial cloud environments. “We have become the easy button for many of our customers, both on the science side of projects, as well as on the high-performance computing systems operations and maintenance side of projects,” explains Mr. Beach.
Apart from its impressive line of services, what sets DeVine apart from other players in this market is its effectiveness at implementing and managing change across their teams and projects. DeVine operates in arenas where risk must absolutely be mitigated, no matter what. They have developed a comprehensive change management and coordination approach that embraces transparency and retrospection to help operations specialist, scientists, and educators to perceive change as a strength and embrace it to their advantage as a way to enhance the overall planning and success of their various missions and goals.
When it comes to its future endeavors, DeVine plans to grow further by continually refining its project coordination practice, expanding upon its functional mentorship programs by growing them into true centers of excellence, and empowering its cadre of incredibly capable and creative teammates drive the company and their clients to success. “We are now expanding into other exciting projects areas such as unmanned underwater vehicle support with our Navy and other oceanographic partners, as well as space weather modeling and airborne observational platform support with our NASA partners. It is a very exciting time,” concludes Mr. Beach.
